It doesn’t get more Melbourne than finding a tiny establishment with kick-ass coffee, located down an alleyway, off another alleyway. Bar Americano just opened its doors for business in the CBD’s Presgrave Place. As the baby sister of Richmond’s famed cocktail bar, Der Raum, Bar Americano promises a classic walk through coffee, food and cocktails. A daily-changing blackboard features revolving piadina along with bruschetta and hearty winter soups. We love the Clover Club cocktail!

For those who dream of warming up somewhere exotic, check out Southeast Asian inspired restaurant and bar Chin Chin. Bringing the kitchen to life and flavours from Bangkok, Saigon and Bangalor to your plate is executive chef, Andrew Gimber (well known for his contribution to the renowned Sydney restaurant, Jimmy Liks) Chin Chin is where you’ll find Southeast Asian inspired soul food best fit for sharing. We love the 7 dish Chefs Selection for $66 per person, or if that is a little hard on your wallet choose a selection of entrees from $5 to share with a group of friends. Some of our favourites are the chicken dumplings, salt & pepper squid and the massaman curry. Chin Chin’s vibe is welcoming and unpretentious while proving that exquisite food doesn’t have to be expensive.

3 Hosier Lane, Melbourne
Open Monday to Friday
LMFF has already made friends with the new kid on the block, a humble, stripped back café called Hoboken. The name Hoboken is a play on words, motioning toward the not so savory types who tend to frequent Hosier Lane. The simple design compliments the small but delicious menu that includes Red Beans and Rice, huge sandwiches (we love the Tuna Melt), slow cooked porridge and their signature porto piri piri omelette pocket. In keeping with the philosophy, food is served on second-hand enamel plates at very reasonable prices. You will find us there most mornings sipping on some of the finest coffee in the neighbourhood.
