The phrase ‘swan song’ is a reference to an ancient belief that the swan is completely mute during its lifetime until the moment just before it dies, when it sings one beautiful song. The magic of fashion has many parallels, the craft and inspiration behind it is often mute and the beauty of the finished work is a prelude to its own demise. The Swan Song exhibition will be an exploration into the fashion of mourning.

iFOLD is a new method of dressing, inviting individuals to make a garment using their own skin and a technique called Skin Folding. Last season iFOLD presented their 2011 spring/ summer collection during the Paris Fashion Festival. The show drove the Fash Pack into a frenzy and has been said to be one of the most controversial trends since Walter Van Bierendonck's stick on Lumps and Bumps. iFOLD is encouraging people to reconsider what they believe clothing to be and may well be the next big thing to revolutionise what it means to feel dressed.

Hoshika Oshimi and Tatsuyoshi Kabata from ESS (Experimental Surreal style) Laboratory join with Beer Deluxe to create Disfigurement of Purity. Held in the outdoor Shinobi Japanese Secret Beer Garden the  exhibition features experimental pieces that explore the tension between couture and surrealism. Featuring experimental pieces crafted with rust based dyes, latex, paper and moss, the disfigurement and embellished works push aesthetic boundaries in typical ESS Laboratory style.

Five leading fashion creatives including UK Dazed & Confused photographer Kate Rodgers and Monika Tywanek of TV, Yeojin Bae, Dhini Pararajasingham (Dhini) and jeweller Karla Way use digital cameras to document the visual references that influence their work in the fashion industry over the course of a week. The result is an insight into the day-to-day inspirations that inform the creative process behind their work. Exhibited on public screens throughout the city the images will reach thousands of passersby, whom, like the designers involved, might see something that will spark their own imagination.

This exhibition drawn predominantly from the NGV collection, features fashion, sculpture, painting, decorative arts and photography from antiquity to the present day exploring the practice of draping cloth on the body in two dominant modes, clinging drape and elevated drape. Clinging drape relies on a direct interaction between the body and cloth, as in classical sculpture, while elevated drape shows drape theatrically animated away from the body as in the festooning of fabric over crinolines and bustles.
