Describe the first thing you ever designed
I was around 6 and it was a mauve taffeta party dress, it had big puffy sleeves shoulder pads and a full skirt (*disclaimer, it was the 80's at the time!). My grandma who was a dressmaker helped me cut out a vogue pattern on her dining room table and taught me to sew while creating that dress. It was my absolute favorite and I wore it to every birthday party that year, until I think my mother banished it to the dress up box. The photo's still haunt me to this day.
Describe your personal style in a sentence?
Classic, timeless styling but always with a hint of something special like beading or jewels.
Tell us something we might not know about you
I have a huge soft spot for animals, especially elephants, panda's and polar bears. The effect global warming and cultivation is having on their natural habitats is something that gravely concerns me. I also get very upset when I hear horrible stories of humans mistreating domesticated animals, we should protect and act as custodians for them, not take advantage of their trust and innocence.
What's your favourite piece from your current collection and why??
The Tahitian Moon dress is my personal favorites and it features a stunning ombre custom print, which sweeps the length of the dress. Channels have been embedded in the waistline to cinch in the waist for a soft flattering silhouette. The removable jeweled crystal neckpiece enables you to wear the dress during the day or dress it up at night to create spectacular impression.
Who is your favourite Australian model??
My favorite Australian model is Olivia Henderson who shot my last look book. She was magic in front and also behind the camera which can make all the difference when you are shooting in gale force winds and torrential rain on the beach in winter. She is making waves on the local scene but mark my words she will be huge internationally in the next couple of years.
Whose personal style do you admire and why??
I admire Elle Macpherson's style, whether she is picking up the kids on her bike or attending a red carpet event she always stands out from the crowd as she dress's with flair and confidence. I am still trying to get my head around the concept of "smart casual" but she nails it every time.
What is your favourite city in the world??
New York is my absolute favorite city in the whole word. I was lucky enough to have the time to completely immerse myself in it when I studied fashion at F.I.T there for half a year. Although my heart belongs to Australia, New York defiantly stole a piece of it and I return there as often as I can to remind myself of the excitement and buzz of inspiration the city provides.
What is your favourite boutique in your hometown??
My favorite boutique in Victoria is Husk, which has several stores in Melbourne. One is in Hawksburn Village, one is in Albert Park and one is in the City. Husk has an eclectic mix of my favorite designers, fabulous jewelry and exquisite imported home wears and even my favorite herbal tea! Husk offers more than a retail experience, it feels as is you escaped to a Moroccan oasis!
